Simultaneous Membership Program
The Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) offers a unique opportunity for college
students who are members of the Army Reserve or Army National Guard to gain valuable
insights and leadership experiences. The Simultaneous Membership Program is open to
those seeking a degree in undergraduate or graduate level studies.
The Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) enables selected enlisted members of the U.S. Army Reserve or National Guard to participate in the Army ROTC Advanced Course. Being an SMP Cadet allows you to earn your drill pay at the rate of an E-5, while serving as an understudy with a unit officer and performing many of the duties of an officer. You remain eligible for Montgomery GI Bill benefits with an enhanced kicker. As an Advance Course Cadet, you will earn the ROTC (tax-free) stipend in addition to your pay and benefits from your unit (as shown below).
Are you a member of the 323d MP CO, 148th IN BN, 1483d TC, 983d Engineers, or another local OHARNG or USAR unit? Check us out. You can get your University degree while obtaining supplemental pay for classes!
- $350 a month stipend during your Sophomore year
- $450 a month stipend during your Junior year
- $500 a month stipend during your Senior year
Cadets who complete the SMP program can earn a commission and serve on Active Duty, the U.S. Army Reserve, or National Guard. If a Cadet knows that he or she wants to continue an affiliation with the Reserve or National Guard that Cadet may request the Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) option at the time of contracting.
