utdevelopment@utoledo.eduWomen & Philanthropy 2013 Grant Funding Cycle
Each year, the grant cycle begins in late fall when grant applications are made available. University of Toledo staff, faculty, and students from all campuses are eligible to apply. The Women & Philanthropy Grants Committee reviews and evaluates the applications and the general membership votes to determine that year’s grant recipient(s). Grant amounts vary from year to year.
The inaugural grant, in the amount of $15,000, was awarded in 2008 to the Carlson Library to commission a glass sculpture by artist Thomas McGlaughlin. That sculpture, entitled “A University Woman,” is on display in the library concourse and has become the model for the Women & Philanthropy logo. Since then, Women & Philanthropy has funded classrooms, an art gallery, locker room enhancements, a “sensory friendly” medical examination room, computer-based educational displays in the Planetarium, and the hospitality area in the Alumni Pavilion. A complete list of awards and award winners is available by visiting the “Grants Awarded” link below.
In just five years, Women & Philanthropy has gifted $176,931 in eight grants to The University of Toledo. Women & Philanthropy is able to give substantial gifts to the University by pooling its members’ resources and making monetary awards in the form of grants.
For 2013, Women & Philanthropy has allocated $25,000 to award in grants for UT projects and programs. To be considered for a Women & Philanthropy grant, applicants must adhere to all of the grant guidelines as outlined in the “Grant Application and Guidelines” link below. The deadline for applications is February 15, 2013. Grant recipient(s) will be announced in early May 2013.
