Curriculum
Students should be graduates of an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy or equivalent. The program will consist of a minimum of 36 semester hours as described. The following prerequisites must be completed prior to admission as a regular student.

Prerequisites (NOT included in total hours) - UT undergraduate courses or their equivalents

    • PHPR 3070 Pharmaceutics I* 
    • PHPR 3080 Pharmaceutics II*
    • MBC 3550 Physiological Chemistry I
    • MBC 3560 Physiological Chemistry II

    *These courses may also be satisfied by taking Phys. Chem. I and II or their equivalents.

 

Required Core Courses - 30 hours (all students)

    • Spectrochemical Methods of Analysis  - 3 hrs
    • Separation Sciences - 4 hrs
    • Dosage Form Design - 3 hrs
    • Product Development - 2 hrs
    • Equilibrium Phenomenon - 2 hrs
    • Pharmaceutical Rate Processes - 3 hrs
    • PHPR 6150 Advanced Pharmacokinetics - 2 hrs
    • Biostatistics - 5 hrs
    • Seminar - 2 semesters
    • Parenteral Manufacturing - 2 hrs
Specialized Courses - 6 hrs minimum **
    • PHPR 0000 Industrial Processes - 2 hrs
    • PHPR 000X Drug Disposition - 2 hrs
    • PHPR 000Y Solid State Chemistry - 2 hrs
    • PHPR 000Z Colloid Chemistry - 2 hrs

**Selection of specialized courses will be dictated by the focus of the student's research, interests or career goals. Those listed are representative of the type of courses possible. Total number of hours selected by the student will vary, but will not be less than 6 hours. A specialized course may be substituted for a core course in order to customize a student's program.



Thesis Project - 6 hrs

A thesis project will be selected by the middle of the fall semester of the first year. Research endeavors will commence at this time. It is anticipated that the student will complete all necessary requirements for graduation within 24 months of their initial registration. Projects will be selected based on availability and interest of the faculty.
