- Dr. Kim Schmude was elected Teacher of the Year by the PharmD graduating class of
2009
- Dr. Mary Powers was elected Outstanding Professor of the Year for 2009
- Dr. Sharrel Pinto received ‘The Faculty Excellence Award for Research 2009-10’ from
the College of Pharmacy.
- Dr. Eric Sahloff received HIV Expert designation (AAHIVE). These credentials are awarded
through the American Academy of HIV Medicine
- The Professional Continuing Education program approved 21 presentations for ACPE credit.
There were a total of 36 hours of credit, and 921
pharmacists received credit.
- The Department filled over 33,500 prescriptions at The Cordelia Martin Health Center
Pharmacy, which it operates. Through several cost
savings and patient access measures, the pharmacy pays only $1 for every $5 in prescription
medications dispensed.
- Dr. Ken Alexander served on three United States Pharmacopeia Expert Committees, including
Dosage Forms (2005- 2010 appointment), Excipients
(Fall 2009-Spring 2010 appointment), and Pharmaceutical Excipients (2010-2015 appointment)
- Dr. Curt Black, Merck Professor of Clinical Pharmacy was the 2010 recipient of the
American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Merit Award.
This national award recognizes pharmacy practitioners for outstanding contributions
to the advancement of pharmacy practice.
- Dr. Black also served as Vice President for Finance, The National Honor Society of
Phi Kappa Phi, managing the $34 million investment fund
for the PKP Foundation.
- Dr. Mary Borovicka was elected Treasurer of the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic
Pharmacists (CPNP). CPNP has approximately 1100 members
globally.
- Dr. Mariann Churchwell was invited to serve as a Grant Reviewer for the National Institute
of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease
(NIDDK)/National Institutes of Health (NIH) for 2009-2010
- Dr. Monica Holiday-Goodman was promoted to Professor, in the Division of Pharmacy
and Healthcare Administration in the Department of Pharmacy
Practice by the Board of Trustees in Spring, 2010
- Dr. Holiday-Goodman was selected as a 2010-2011 American Association of Colleges of
Pharmacy Leadership Fellow, and will complete the year
long fellowship program in July 2011
- Dr. Jerry Nesamony was selected as an item writer for the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate
Equivalency Exam administered by the Foreign Pharmacy
Graduate Equivalency Examination Committee, through the National Association of Boards
of Pharmacy
- Dr. Martin Ohlinger was selected by the Society of Critical Care Medicine as a PARAGON
Project coach specilizing in pharmacy services
- Dr. Mike Peeters completed the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Teaching and
Learning Certificate Program in October 2009
- The Department again offered two separate PCCA-sponsored compounding “Boot Camps”
at the College in 2008-2009. This is the most
popular professional elective for students in the Pharm.D. program. PCCA brought the
16 hour training program to UT’s campus as a
“Remote Boot Camp” experience. Sixty students participated in that experience. The
College provided tuition off-set for
students, funding 90% of the cost of the program for each student.
- Dr. Sharrel Pinto received the ‘Midwest Poster Finalist Award.’ Title “Impact of a
community pharmacy based diabetes
medication therapy management (MTM) program using the ECHO model,” Midwest Social

- Dr. Pinto also received the ‘Midwest Joe Widerholt CRAP Award.’ Title “Mapping interventions to outcomes: identifying pharmacist interventions for diabetic patients that result in cost savings for employers,” Midwest Social and Administrative Pharmacy Conference, July 2010, Iowa City, IA.
