Professor Hicks received his BS in pharmacy and MS in Hospital Pharmacy from the University of Iowa, and completed his residency
at the
University of Iowa Hospitals. He served as Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy Practice from 1981-2000, and was most recently
the
Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs. Professor Hicks is a member of several professional organizations, including the American
Pharmaceutical Association, The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, Sections: Pharmacy and Clinical, Phi Kappa Phi,
Rho Chi
Society (Pharmacy Scholastic Honorary Society), Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity (Charter Member at University of Iowa),
The
University of Iowa Alumni Association, Life Member American Society of Hospital Pharmacists, and the Toledo Academy of Pharmacy.
Professor Hicks has been active in professional research. His recent grants are in the area of pharmacy practice research,
and include
"Asthma Management in the Primary Care Setting" in association with Dr. Walter Siganga, funded by Merck for $42,000, and
"Implementation and evaluation of an experiential training program in a community chain pharmacy environment", with project
director
Dr. Curt Black, sponsored by the Kroger Company (http://www.kroger.com/pharmacy.htm)
for $95,000.
