Dr. Borovicka received her bachelor of science degree in pharmacy and doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Toledo.
She completed a
residency in psychiatric pharmacy practice at the Louis Stokes Veterans Administration Medical Center in Brecksville, Ohio.
After her residency,
Dr. Borovicka accepted a position with the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy and practiced at Spring Grove Hospital,
a state psychiatric
hospital. She is a board certified psychiatric pharmacy specialist.
Dr. Borovicka is currently the Director of the Pharmacy Partnership
Program, which is a joint effort between the University of Toledo, College of Pharmacy (UT) and Cleveland State University
(CSU). The program is
designed to generate interest in the profession of pharmacy among Cleveland area high school students. Students can complete
the pre-pharmacy
curriculum at CSU and then transfer into the professional division at UT. Dr. Borovicka is responsible for recruiting, advising,
and teaching in
the program. In addition to lecturing at CSU, she lectures in the Neuropsychiatric Pathophysiology and Pharmacotherapy module
at UT. She is
assisted by a departmental secretary, Melanie Caves.
Dr. Borovicka has a practice in adult inpatient psychiatry and geropsychiatry at
the Louis Stokes Veterans Administration Medical Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Her research interests the use of antipsychotics
in the elderly,
the metabolic effects of psychtropic medication, and schizophrenia. Dr. Borovicka also precepts Pharm.D. students and the
two current psychiatric
pharmacy residents. She lectures frequently for the medical and dental students as well as the psychiatry residents at Case
Western Reserve
University.
Dr. Borovicka currently serves on the Department Chair Search Committee. She is also a member of the College of Psychiatric
and Neurologic Pharmacists, ASHP, and ASCP. In the fall of 2002, Dr. Borovicka assisted in planning the 8th Annual Midwest
Neuropsychiatric
Conference held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio.
