All students planning to participate in the Commencement ceremony must have a formal portrait for the printed program. If you do not already have a formal portrait on file with the Office of Student Affairs (e.g., ERAS photos for medical students), please carefully follow the instructions below.

• Image should be a head and bust image of you in professional attire against a solid background. No other people should appear in the photograph with you.
• Image should be high resolution and professional-quality.
• A photograph taken by a professional photographer is not necessary, however OSA reserves the right to decline to publish any image that does not meet the quality standards of the printed program. (We will contact you if your submitted image is not adequate for the program.)
• Email your digital image JPEG format photo as an email attachement a to mailto:COMcommencement@utoledo.edu?subject=%5BInsert%20your%20name%5D%20Commencement%20Photo.
• Please name the file "YourLastName YourFirstName" and include as the subject line of the email "[Your full name] Commencement Photo."
• In the body of the email include your full degree you will be receiving at Commencement and a contact phone number where you can be reached. Please email any additional questions or comments in a separate email.

Students awarded a doctoral level degree receive a hood that identifies their field of study (e.g. medicine or philosophy) and the University granting the degree. Only individuals with doctoral level degrees are eligible to place the hood on a graduate. For the College of Medicine and Life Sciences Commencement, students may choose to have their hoods placed by a distinguished faculty member who has been selected for this honor or may request a “special hooder”: a relative, faculty mentor, or friend with a doctoral level degree.

Your request to have a special hooder is subject to approval by the College of Medicine and Life Sciences Administration. If your request is denied for any reason, you will have the opportunity to request another special hooder. In exceptional cases (e.g., two parents who have doctoral degrees), a student may request a maximum of two special hooders.

It is your responsibility to contact the person to do your hooding. All Special Hooders must wear appropriate academic regalia to participate in the ceremony. Additional information about ordering regalia for Special Hooders can be found in the Commencement Guide.
