Summer Opportunities for Medical Career Development
Participating in a summer educational experience is very important in your career exploration and residency application preparation process. This catalog describes a variety of research, clinical, community health, and health policy programs in which students can participate the summer following their first year of medical school. Each page has a description of the program and information on dates, duration, stipend, eligibility, and application requirements for the program. A contact person with phone number and email address is also provided.
Tentative timeline for 2013 Summer Opportunities:
December - February: (NOTE: Application for UTCOM opportunities will be available
after Jan 15 session)
- Complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
- Create/update Curriculum Vitae
- Review 2013 Summer Opportunities for Medical Career Development (link provided above)
January 15 (12-1pm HEB 100): Information session for internal UT opportunities and process for application (online application will open in January non-research programs)
January 30: Essay and information due for Community Health Project Director position
February 15: UT research projects are due by faculty for review (will be uploaded to MSSR webpage as approved)
February - March: Students interested in research contact UT faculty to schedule interviews. Students interested in non-research opportunities complete the online application and other requirements
February 15: Applications due for non-research, UT opportunities. Application for Non-Research
March 13: Link to database for UT Medical Student Summer Research Projects
Week of April 22: Paperwork session
May 28, 9am-11am: Orientation session
May 28: UT Sessions begin
August 1&2: Research Symposium
