UTCOM-Waite Brand Foundation Community Health Project - Student Director

The UTCOM-WAITE BRAND FOUNDATION Community Health Project (CHP) provides medical students with a deeper and broader understanding of the socioeconomic, cultural and environmental factors that contribute to an individual’s health status. This project seeks to provide valuable benefits to participating social service agencies and the people they serve. The principal component of the CHP is the Summer Internship Program which places students in a variety of social service agencies. Expectations of the CHP Director include: selection of CHP participants, match students to sites, conduct and attend group meetings with CHP Interns throughout the summer, contact and retain sites for participation, cultivate new sites when possible, supervise students at sites throughout the summer, includes visiting each site and interview students and staff, report student progress and experiences to the UT HSC Student Affairs and other CHP contributors. Handle problems that may arise with students or staff at sites. The director is a representative of UT College of Medicine and should perform in the utmost professional manner at all times. The director is also required to complete an Executive Summary in August detailing the summer CHP experience as a whole. Finalists will be invited for an interview.

Program Dates: Commitment is for the entire summer, a good deal of the work is done during the school year, preferably during the Medical Student Spring Break.  Matching students to sites must be completed prior to the end of school.

 

Compensation: $3000

 

Eligibility: UT COM medical students in good academic standing.

  • Name and Rocket Number
  • Discuss your current perceptions of community health;
  • Discuss your motivations for applying for the Student Director position;
  • Describe any experience you have had working with community health-based organizations;
  • Describe a situation where you led a group of people. What problems did you face and how did you resolve them?
