James T. Jackson is Associate Director of Multicultural Student Services, in the Division of Student Affairs. James provides leadership in sustaining and enriching a campus climate that is conducive to multicultural students enrolled at the University.
As Associate Director James collaborates with campus constituencies to develop and implement programs and services that enhance underrepresented student success as well as promote education, interaction and understanding across cultures. James provides leadership for services, programs and outreach to the African American undergraduate student population and often serves as a liaison to the African American community in the Toledo area. He works to develop strategies for increasing retention of diverse student populations, provide multiple support services for students from underrepresented populations and diversity education programs that foster inclusive learning environments for all students and encourage cross-cultural dialogue among students, faculty and staff. James works closely with constituents and allies in the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender student population. By providing leadership and support for LGBT initiatives in the Office of Multicultural Student Services James is a trusted “ally” and strong advocate for LGBT students.
James is a dynamic and powerful speaker. His presentation style is compassionate, enlightening, entertaining, informative, and in your face. Participants may be move to tears or fall out of their seats laughing, but they won’t be bored. He is a professional who has won awards for outstanding service to students at several universities. James earned both his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a specialization in Management in 1991, and his Master of Education in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Kutztown University (Kutztown, PA) in 1996.
He has a passion for social justice, multiculturalism, and diversity education. James was a first generation college student and as a professional he understands the anxiety, fears, frustrations of young people engaged in the collegiate experience. With nearly 2 decades of work experience in higher education and a lifelong commitment to making a difference in the lives of those around him.

Leia’ is the advisor of Miniya Mentoring Program for African American females, a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Pi Sigma Epsilon, and The Impact Movement, Inc. In her spare time she likes to work with the youth in reaching their academic and career aspirations, cooking and spending time with her close friends.
After graduation Leia’ plans to work, and eventually head, the Multicultural Division of Student Affairs at a university. She aspires develop programs that fosters close relationships, tolerance and acceptance of students of all cultures.

Senetta Swinea is currently pursing a dual Masters' degree in Higher Education and Health Education at the University of Toledo. She earned her Bachelor of Atrs degree in Ethnic Studies from Bowling Green State University. She has been working as a graduate assistant in the Office of Multicultural Student Services since August 2008, and has been enjoying working with the staff of OMSS and students immensely.
At the University of Toledo, Senetta is a member of Phi Eta Sigma National Honors Socciety, Kappa Delta Pi International Honors Society in Education, and serves as a mentor in Miniya: a mentoring program for African American women. She is an active member in her church, Word of Truth Christian Center and campus ministry group, LIFE Ministries.
Senetta was born and raised in Canton, OH. She loves learning about new cultures and traveling the world. She enjoys photography, rollerblading, cooking, and working out. After graduating from the University of Toledo, she would like to pursue a Ph.D in Higher Education Administration.

Roberta Edgecombe resides in Toledo, Ohio and is a native of Chicago, IL. She received her BA degree in Business Management from The University of Toledo.
Roberta currently serves as a Program Coordinator in the Office of the Dean of Students, in support of the Office of Multicultural Student Services. Her primary focus is assisting in the development of programs and the implementation of outreach activities designed to aid in the success of UT students. Roberta also provides assistance with programming related to the retention of students for other offices such as the Office of Latino Initiatives, Office of Residence Life, Student Involvement, and Career Services. Her underlying goal is to support The University of Toledo’s mission of “Student Centeredness.
