    Leadership UT

Based on the philosophy that “Leaders are made, not born,” Levis Leadership UT is a selective scholarship program that enhances and nurtures leadership development within its curriculum. Forty incoming freshman students, selected for the program, have the option to participate up to four years.  To be eligible for the Levis Leadership UT Program, student must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative high school GPA, a 20 ACT composite or 940 SAT combined reading and math score and demonstrated potential for leadership exhibited through high school honors, activities, community service, and etcetera.  Upon acceptance to the program, students will receive a $1,000 scholarship toward their first academic year.  The scholarship may be renewed at varying amounts for the next three years, based on the recipient’s involvement in the Levis Leadership UT Program.  If you have any questions, please contact the University of Toledo, Office of Student Involvement at 419-530-4944.

    HISTORY
LUT was started in the fall of 1994 with 48 incoming freshman selected from over 700 applicants.  Students selected for the program enrolled for the College Student Leadership course for both semesters of their freshman year.

Because of Dr. Frank Horton, 13th president of the University of Toledo, additional support was provided for students who commit to being involved in leadership education for their sophomore, junior, and senior years.  The program has grown from an initial one-year leadership program to a comprehensive four-year leadership development experience for those students who commit themselves to the additional education and training.

    INTRODUCTION
The fundamental vision of the University is to help students develop their own abilities and to extend learning beyond the classroom.  As a reflection of this vision, incoming University of Toledo students with leadership potential are invited to participate in the Levis Leadership UT Program. Selected freshman participate in an exciting and interactive college student leadership development training program.

    PURPOSE
The primary belief upon which the program is based is that leaders are not born, they are made.  The skills and knowledge that contribute to effective leadership are teachable and learnable. The purpose of the program is to provide the selected group of men and women with leadership education and training which provides limitless possibilities for growth and development

    THE LUT PROGRAM
Leadership UT on this campus has become synonymous with strong, capable, responsible leaders.  These students are recruited for scholarships, activities, committees, and programs.  They have definitely made an impact here.

...Is a unique experience that challenges students to examine and evaluate themselves, their values, and their ideas and beliefs about leadership.

...Provides individuals an opportunity to be part of a diverse team of students.

...Builds a network of current and developing student leaders to serve our population.

    SPECIALIZED ACTIVITIES

    • Small Leadership UT courses that embrace in-depth interaction between students and instructors.
