Songfest
Songfest, UT’s second oldest standing tradition, began in spring of 1937 with a group
of six fraternities singing old college songs on the lawn behind University Hall.
Women began their own singing competition in 1940 which consisted of sororities and
one independent group performing choral arrangements. Songfest has continued to expand
since its inception in 1937. More groups now participate, awards ceremonies are held,
and lavish production numbers are prepared.
Songfest is a grand philanthropic tradition that can be described as a song and dance performance by different organizations. There are three separate competitions: Men's, Co-ed and Women's Competition, which are composed of the many Greek, Academic, Religious, and other UT organizations. The current sponsors of Songfest are Blue Key National Honor Fraternity and Mortar Board National Honor Society, both of which hold their recognition and tapping ceremonies during this event. An important part of Songfest has always been the philanthropic mission attached to it, and each year a worthy organization is chosen as the recipient. Everyone at The University of Toledo takes pride in having Songfest annually during the Spring Semester. This event is great ways for students to get involved, actively participate in tradition, and engage in a little friendly competition-what more could you ask for.
