M3C Fellowship
Are you first generation/low-income student with a commitment to community engagement? Are you looking for a rewarding community service opportunity? Are you interested in earning an educational award for your service? Check out this opportunity! (jump to application instructions and form)
The Office of Service Learning and Community Engagement (OSLCE) at The University of Toledo is recruiting 16 students to work as M3C Fellows who will be part of 600 fellows recruited across 9 Midwestern Universities and Colleges supported by Corporation of National and Community Service (CNCS) for the 2009-2010 academic year. M3C fellows devote, in one year, 300 hours in service to their community. During the program, the fellows complete their hours both individually at an agency that meets their educational needs and personal passions, and as a group. They also attend bi-weekly reflections led by peer mentors to learn from their experiences and those of others. After successfully completing the program fellows receive a $1000 educational voucher that goes towards tuition or loans.
The program offers you a unique opportunity to:
- Build your resume with strong component of service learning/community service
- Serve your community and engage in giving back
- Earn a $1000 educational award from the National Service Trust (this award can be used as part of or in addition to your work study awards)
- Continue as a M3C fellow to earn an additional $1000 educational award in the second year
- Become part of a cohort 600 fellows across the campuses of Midwest States
- Utilize additional educational experiences and leadership opportunities in community service
- Have an opportunity to participate in and lead several service learning activities
M3C Scholar Fellowship commitment:
- Commit 300 hours of service at the rate of 10 hours/per week (30 weeks a year) to engage in Service Learning Projects that are recognized by the Office of Service Learning and Community Engagement (OSLCE)
- Use existing service sites to achieve your service hours, if approved by OSLCE
- Participate in 20-30 hours of training in service learning and leadership in service learning (counts towards your 300 service hours)
- Complete Terms of Services and follow rules of conduct of the fellowship program and the agency
Basic Requirements:
- Student at The University of Toledo
- First generation (neither parent graduated from a four-year college/university) (and/or) low income college student
- U.S. Citizen/U.S National/Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the U.S.
- Inclination for Service Learning/Community Involvement
- Good Academic Standing (high school and college)
- Ability to involve other students in your service activities
- Downloading the M3C Fellow Application or Peer Mentor Application
- Looking over the information, requirements and application
- Filling-out an application form and submitting it to:
