Student Involvement
A mandatory presentation is given to both students and their parents outlining
current university transportation offerings. Additionally, they receive
information on campus recycling projects, sustainability-focused organizations
and sustainable dining services practices during an information fair.
Residence Hall Councils have a position dedicated to sustainability. This
position works approximately 8-10 hours per week depending on time of year.
The University has two student organization specifically dedicated to sustainability initiatives and two others with executive positions responsible for sustainable programming. The two organizations focusing on sustainability are the Society for Environmental Education and the Environmental Law Society. Student Organizations with sustainability chairs include Student Government and the Residence Student Association.
UTparticipates in Black Out. The annual competition was first offered in 2008 to make students living on campus reduce hall energy consumption. During the month long competition there was a 12% reduction of energy, water and waste, a monetary savings of $14,000.
