The average cumulative grade point average (GPA) for first-year students enrolling in the fall 2008 semester was 3.13. Although this average should not be construed as a minimum requirement for admission, it provides an academic benchmark of our currently enrolled student population.
Program Admission Standards
UT colleges and programs have specific admission criteria that must be met in order to be admitted to that college. For example, students who do not meet these requirements will be admitted as specified below. Students admitted as premajors participate in the Academic Skills Enhancement (ASE) program, which provides intensive instruction, tutoring, advising and other support services.
GPA requirements are based on a cumulative GPA, not semester GPA score.
COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
• 2.25 GPA or 20 ACT/950 SAT
Premedical, Predental and Preveterinary program
• 3.0 GPA or 25 ACT/1150 SAT • Recommended 3.8 GPA and 29 ACT/1300 SAT for Bac/M.D. option. Contact the premed adviser for details.
Music program

COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMISSION
Bachelor of Business Administration programs
• 2.4 GPA and 18 ACT/ 870 SAT
Students not meeting these requirements will be reviewed for the Applied Organizational Technology Associate Degree programs.
Applied Organizational Technology Associate Degree programs
• 2.0 GPA
Information Technology program
• 2.25 GPA and 21 ACT/990 SAT
Students who meet the ACT/SAT requirement with a 2.0 GPA will be reviewed for the Applied Organizational Technology Associate Degree programs. Students with a 2.0 GPA and less than a 21 ACT/990 SAT will be admitted to the UT Learning Collaborative.
JUDITH HERB COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
• 2.0 GPA or 19 ACT/910 SAT
Students not meeting these requirements will be admitted to the UT Learning Collaborative.
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
Engineering Science programs
• 3.0 GPA and 22 ACT/1030 SAT • 4 years of high school math (fourth-year emphasis on trigonometry or precalculus) and high school chemistry; high school physics is strongly recommended
Students not meeting these requirements will be reviewed for the Engineering Technology programs.
Bioengineering B.S./M.D. program
• Recommended 3.8 GPA and 29 ACT/1300 SAT. Contact the bioengineering adviser for details.
Engineering Technology programs
• 2.0 GPA and 21 ACT/990 SAT
Students who meet the GPA requirement with a 19-20 ACT (910-950 SAT) will be admitted to the UT Learning Collaborative. Students with less than a 2.0 GPA and less than a 19 ACT/910 SAT will be admitted to the UT Learning Collaborative.
Information Technology program
• 2.25 GPA and 21 ACT/990 SAT
Students who meet the ACT/SAT requirement with a 2.0 GPA will be reviewed for the Engineering Technology programs. Students with a 2.0 GPA and less than a 21 ACT/990 SAT will be admitted to the UT Learning Collaborative.
COLLEGE OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES
Students must have an ACT/SAT score for admission directly into the college • 2.0 GPA or 24 ACT/1110 SAT
Students not meeting these requirements will be admitted to UT Learning Collaborative. Students can transfer into the college from UT Learning Collaborative with 12 hours of college credit work and a 2.0 college GPA.
Cardiovascular Technology and Respiratory Care programs
• 2.5 GPA • Successful completion of three years of high school math, biology and chemistry with a "C" or better
Once admitted, students must file a separate application with the college’s admissions committee to participate in the competitive admission process
COLLEGE OF NURSING
• All students admitted into the prenursing curriculum with 2.5 GPA • Successful completion of high school chemistry with a "C" or better
• Upon completion of the prenursing curriculum there is a competitive admission process for the professional sequence
Students not meeting these requirements will be admitted to UT Learning Collaborative.
COLLEGE OF PHARMACY
All students admitted into the preprofessional program with:
• 2.0 GPA or 19 ACT/910 SAT
• Although not required, a 3.0 GPA, 22 ACT/1030 SAT, and high school chemistry and precalculus are strongly recommended
Students not meeting these requiremtns will be admited to the UT Learning Collaborative.
Contingent admission to the Professional Division is available on a competitive basis. To be considered, the following must be completed in the year preceding fall admission:
• Achieve and report by Dec. 1, 2008, a 29 ACT/1300 SAT
• 3.75 GPA in a college preparatory high school curriculum
• Application postmarked by Dec. 1, 2008
Additional materials may be requested. Final notification of contingent admission status will occur in mid-March.
