MD/MBA Dual Degree Program
The College of Business is excited to announce the creation of a MD/MBA dual degree agreement between the College of Medicine and the College of Business Administration. The agreement will allow students to double count courses toward both degrees’ requirements. Some detail highlights of the program include:

  • Students must apply separately and be admitted to both programs;
  • MCAT accept in lieu of the GMAT for MBA admissions purposes;
  • Likely timeline: years 1-3 in MD; year 4 and summer in MBA; year 5 in MD program.

    Although it is to a student’s advantage if they complete a business minor or major at the undergraduate level, we accept students without any business coursework.

    Completion of an undergraduate business degree or minor in business gives students the opportunity to complete up to 18 credit hours of MBA equivalent credit.

    Students that pursue both the MD and MBA degrees are able to find additional career opportunities in health care and hospital administration, governmental positions and private industry consulting than they would with the MD or the MBA alone. The UT MD/MBA dual degree program helps students position themselves for a lifetime of exciting and expanded career opportunities.

    If a student completes an undergraduate degree or minor in business, the MD/MBA program will likely be 5 total years of study; a student who has not taken any business coursework will likely take 5.5 or 6 years to complete the program, but the time to completion depends on whether the student wishes to take summer courses. As a note, all of the MBA required courses are offered in the summer term, and we admit students for spring, summer and fall semesters with no preference given to a particular term. Thus, students could take several MBA courses immediately after graduation and before starting the MD program.

    If you have any questions regarding admission to the MD/MBA dual degree program, please contact Adviser/Recruiter Robert Detwiler for more information.
