Writing Theory - Course Descriptions
ENGL 6180: Composition Course Design, Research Methods and Assessment
Webegin by considering how it is we assess writing, reflecting on our own experience and theory and then extend that assessment of writing to how we design our courses. We then take up methods of research currently used in the field of rhetoric and composition, including but not limited to ethnography, discourse analysis, teacher-research, and inquiry. From that study, students produce a proposal for an extended research project that will be carried out in a capstone project that fulfills the final requirements for the Certificate in the Teaching of Writing. The class closes with a reflection on the assessment of writing as it is enacted in our research and course design.
