Ben Wolkins, Jazz Trumpet

Photo of Jazz trumpet instructor for the University of Toledo, Ben WolkinsBen Wolkins is active as a trumpeter, composer/arranger and educator in the greater Toledo area. Born in Toledo, he is an honors graduate of Whitmer High School and has attended the University of Toledo (B.M. in Jazz Performance), Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Indiana University-Bloomington and the Aaron Copland School of Music-Queens College (M.A. in Jazz Trumpet). 
His primary teachers have been Bernard Sanchez, William Adam, Patrick Harbison, Michael Philip Mossman, Gene Parker, Mark Byerly, Brad Goode and John Rommel.
Ben’s experience led him to touring the nation and performing nightly with The Glenn Miller Orchestra, Jack Morgan and the Russ Morgan Orchestra and the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps. He also spent 10 years in the New York City area honing his craft and performing with many local stalwart groups like the Howard Williams Orchestra, Harlem Renaissance Orchestra, Stan Rubin Orchestra, Lou Caputo’s Nonet, Arturo O’Farrill and the Chico O’Farrill Orchestra and the Big Apple Circus. Locally, he’s performed with Aretha Franklin, Bobby Vinton, The Four Tops, Henry Cuesta, Bobby Rydell and Peter Erskine. 
In addition to his duty at UT, Ben serves on the faculty of Owens Community College’s Fine and Performing Arts Department and was a past staff member at Lourdes College and The Ridgewood Conservatory of Music in Ridgewood, New Jersey.
