What areas of specialization does the University of Toledo AQ Bridge Program offer?
The program offers modules on current research in Marketing, Sales and CRM, Supply Chain Management and Interface of Marketing and Services, and Technological Management of Information, in addition to the traditional Manufacturing and Operations Management disciplines. Through these modules, we expect the students will be introduced to current research in marketing, sales and CRM and supply chain areas and through a continuing mentoring process be able to become competent researchers in these areas. In our program we have always stressed the cross functional nature of manufacturing and businesses and our students do receive training to be able to teach and do research in areas including Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Management, Marketing, Sales and CRM Technologies, Information Systems and Technology Management. Our doctoral graduates have been placed in marketing and management departments in addition to operations and information systems departments. Also, a look at the faculty publications will attest to the fact that the faculty have research interests and capabilities spanning operations, information technology, marketing, logistics, electronic commerce and technological entrepreneurship.
 
Who might benefit from the UT program?
Although other disciplines will be considered, the primary targeted disciplines include Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Sciences, Economics, Econometrics, Industrial Organizational Psychology, Psychology, Engineering (all disciplines), and Public Administration.
 
What are the admission requirements?
The eligibility requirements for entry into the program include an earned doctorate in one of the following disciplines together with an established ability to conduct research. The disciplines are:

Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Sciences, Economics, Econometrics, Industrial Organizational Psychology, Psychology, Engineering (all disciplines), and Public Administration.

Although other disciplines will be considered, the primary targeted disciplines are the ones above. Please also know that the application deadline is expected to be March 13, 2009.
 
How is the program structured?
This is a seven-week intensive program in the summer followed by a two-day review/renewal program at the end of the Fall. It will provide in depth course work in Research Methods, Multivariate Statistical Methods, courses on basic management functions, and seminars/workshops on current research in OM/Manufacturing, Supply Chains, Marketing/CRM and Information Technology, as well as a workshop on teaching approaches in Business Schools and communication skills. The end-of- Fall program will be a capstone experience where the participants come back to present and share their research project progress and receive feed back from their research mentors for further improvement.

The program has eight modules, spanning seven weeks as shown below.
Module 1 Basic Management functions
Module 2 Research Methods for Business
Module 3 Multivariate Statistical Methods for Research
Module 4 Seminar/Workshop : Current Research in Manufacturing / Service Operations Management
Module 5 Seminar/Workshop: Current Research in Supply Chain Management and Interface of Marketing and Services.
Module 6 Seminar/Workshop: Current Research in Technological Management of Information, Marketing, Sales and CRM
Module 7 Workshops on Teaching Approaches in Business Schools and Faculty
Module 8 Workshops on Teaching Approaches in Business Schools and Faculty
 
How will the program be delivered (Pedagogy)?
Multiple engagement approaches will be incorporated into curriculum delivery including lectures, seminars, workshops, group/team work and presentations, industry/business speakers. The modules will be team-taught highlighting the cross and multidisciplinary approach needed in business school research. Flexible delivery methods utilizing the Internet and other means will be employed for delivering the courses on Basic Management functions. Preparation of research manuscripts for publication will be conducted using email, Internet, and other electronic means. Faculty- student interaction will continue beyond the summer through fall and spring, especially in mentoring the students for research. At the end of fall, the participants are expected to come back to the University of Toledo for a two-day workshop in honing their research skills. Prominent business executives also will be featured to provide practitioner insight.
 
When is the program offered?
The program is held in June and July and will begin in 2009. The application deadline is March 13, 2009.
 
UT College of Business Faculty's research productivity.
The number of papers presented by UT faculty and doctoral students at Decision Sciences Institute meetings has been 18, 27, 28, 27 and 35 for the years 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 respectively. It should be noted that this was the highest productivity of any university in the U.S. (From the proceedings of the Decision Sciences Institute Conference of the last five years). Four COBA doctoral dissertations have won best dissertation awards and/or honorable mentions from Decision Sciences Institute. Six papers have received best paper awards at various national and regional conferences of the Decision Sciences Institute. The faculty and students from our Ph.D. program have published the largest number of papers in Manufacturing/OM/IS in the Journal of Operations Management, the top Journal in Operations Management, and are in the Publication?s top ten most published Schools.
 
Once enrolled, what other resources are available?
The program will be held at The University of Toledo. Many of the physical facilities of the College and the University will be utilized. Our strengths include:

What happens upon completion of the program?
All graduates will receive a certificate of completion from the University of Toledo. If placement assistance is desired, then based on the experience of the placement of our current program graduates, we will assist the participants of the bridge program in a number of ways. The program director and faculty will use their networking to place the graduates by writing introductory letters and recommendation letters. The vitae of the graduates, compiled in book form, will be circulated to appropriate schools and also put on a website. They will also be advised and encouraged to attend doctoral consortia at professional meetings of the Decision Sciences Institute, and Academy of Management and make presentations.
 
What is the estimated cost of the program?
The estimated cost of the seven-week program is $25,000 per participant. This includes tuition, lodging, and food expenses.  There is Financial Aid Available for some students.  Please see the Financial Aid link in the sites Main Menu or click here.
