Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women

The Complete Comments of Members of the Women's Advisory Committee, July 21, 1977

During the next year, the center developed as the committee addressed issues of staffing and facilities. Space was limited and, due to the small operating budget, only a few of the necessary staff would have paid positions. The Center would have to depend on contributions of time and money to operate. In addition, one of the more important tasks for the committee was to set down the purpose and philosophy for the center. In their Comments dated July 21, 1977, members of the Women's Advisory Committee to the Center for Women wrote:

"We are very pleased that money has been allocated in this year's budget to begin a women's center. We know this is a difficult year to begin any new program because of rising costs and restricted income. Thus, we appreciate the leadership given by the President in deciding to begin the program at this time. We believe the University is an important resource. New approaches can increase its use by women in the community for the benefit of both the women and the University. We know new approaches require support from top administration, especially when cooperation is needed, as in this case, of many departments. We are listing here a few fundamental concepts that we believe important and which we hope will be followed as the University develops these new approaches."
