Inclement Weather Plan - Spring 2018

Rain 

In the event of rain,the commencement ceremony will take place in a condensed format. Cancellation will occur only if lightning or tornado warnings/tornadoes occur. Such a cancellation will be announced through the University’s UT Alert system, local media and at www.utoledo.edu

If cancellation occurs on Saturday, May 5, 2018, the ceremonies will take place on Sunday, May 6, 2018, with the undergraduate ceremony at 10 a.m. and graduate ceremony at 3 p.m.  If there is inclement weather on Sunday, May 6, 2018, both of the ceremonies will be canceled. 

Lightning

If lightning is seen at any time during the commencement ceremony, attendees will be directed to immediately evacuate to tornado-safe waiting areas located under the Glass Bowl stands and clearly posted with “Tornado Safe Waiting Area” signs.

The “all clear” for resumption of commencement ceremonies will be given after consultation between UT’s Department of Safety and Health and other commencement staff, as well as review of National Weather Service bulletins for the area.

Tornado Warning/Tornado

If a tornado warning is issued for Lucas County by the National Weather Service, attendees will be directed to immediately evacuate to tornado-safe waiting areas located under the Glass Bowl stands and clearly posted with “Tornado Safe Waiting Area” signs.

The “all clear” for resumption of commencement ceremonies will be given after the National Weather Service has issued such an announcement for Lucas County.
