Film/video is a form of artistic expression that combines images and sound to create work that challenges as well as entertains. Film/video at UT integrates the study of film, historically and theoretically, with creative production. Film/video majors learn how to turn their visions into art by studying cinematography, directing, writing, producing, audio production, and editing.

UTcombines the arts of theatre and film in one department, giving students a unique educational experience. Film/video students create original work and multimedia installations and have the opportunity to present their projects in public screenings. All students are taught the necessary production standards to be successful as an artist and industry professional. They also have a chance to gain real-world experience through internships related to their field.

The department of theatre and film is located in the Center for Performing Arts. The center has a digital video editing lab and facilities for 16mm film production, sound mixing, animation and optical printing. Students work in an environment that encourages self-expression and development of individual vision.

What to expect when you graduate

Graduates work as artists, scholars and industry professionals. Jobs can be found in television, film and video production, digital post-production, photography, writing, visual communications, directing, arts management, audio-visual archiving and restoration, promotions, marketing, education, and research.

More films are produced per year in India than in Hollywood.
