Master of Science in Exercise Science

Concentration in Athletic Training: 

Within the Master of Science in Exercise Science degree, a concentration in Athletic Training is available to students that:

  1. Have graduated from a CAATE accredited Professional Athletic Training program.
  2. Are certified or are eligible for certification by the NATABOC.
  3. Are eligible for Ohio Athletic Training licensure.

The Post-Professional Athletic Training Program is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). This program represents an advanced academic program with associated clinical experience opportunities. Students are encouraged to pursue various sports medicine related topics through their course of study and thesis projects. Students will gain autonomous clinical experience through their clinical assistantships, which are offered in the Division I intercollegiate athletics and high school settings.

The University of Toledo Post-Professional Athletic Training Program strives to be a model for advancement and promotion of the athletic training field. The program seeks to develop professionals who make an impactful contribution to the field of athletic training through service, scholarship and clinical care while conducting themselves in a manner consistent with utmost professionalism and ability. 

Program Mission
The mission of the Post-Professional Athletic Training Program is to expand the depth and breadth of athletic training knowledge and skills beyond that of entry-level. The program seeks to develop clinicians that practice with a patient-centered approach in an effort to optimize the health and well-being of their patients. In addition, the program seeks to develop scholarly clinicians that are capable of providing the high-quality care necessary to contribute to the advancement of the athletic training field. Students are provided the opportunity to foster these skills in the classroom and research laboratories, as well as during autonomous clinical education assignments.
