Master of Science in Exercise Science (Concentration in Athletic Training)

Admissions

Applicants pursuing a post-professional master's degree in athletic training are required to have graduated from a CAATE-accredited professional athletic training program, be BOC certified or eligible for certification as an athletic trainer (ATC), and have an NPI number.

In order to be competitive in the application process, it is recommended that our applicants possess a minimum GRE score of 153 verbal and 150 quantative, and a minimum of a 3.0 GPA as an undergraduate student.

Application Procedures

Applications are due by midnight on November 17. Only complete applications will be given full consideration. The application consists of several components, please read carefully. This process also serves as the Graduate Assistant Application process. Complete applications must include both of the following:

  1. Complete the application to the College of Graduate Studies (COGS) at the University of Toledo (https://apply.utoledo.edu/prod/bwskalog.p_disploginnew). Applicants should select the Master of Science in Exercise Science program with the concentration in athletic training offered through the School of Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences in the College of Health and Human Sciences. Do NOT apply for the Masters of Athletic Training Program. The COGS application is online and requires the following:
    a)  Student information
    b)  Statement of Purpose (i.e. why do you wish to pursue post-professional athletic training education, why at the University of Toledo, etc.)
    c)  3 letters of recommendation
    d)  Official Undergraduate Transcripts
    e)  Official GRE Scores

    All fees and documents associated with this COGS application must be received and processed by the College of Graduate Studies in order for the application to be complete. Only complete files will be considered for admission to the Post-Professional Athletic Training Program. Official Transcripts and GRE scores can be submitted once an applicant has been accepted to the Post-Professional Athletic Training Program.

  2. Complete an application to the University of Toledo Post-Professional Athletic Training Program, submitted via email (athletictraining@utoledo.edu). This application must include:
    a)  Cover Letter, including:
          - Clinical assistantship preference(s) (High School, UToledo Sports Medicine - Football, Lourdes University)
          - Reason for position preference(s)
    b)  Resume
    c)  List of 3 Professional References
    d)  Unofficial Undergraduate Transcripts
    e)  Unofficial GRE Scores (GRE score sheet)

Primary consideration will be given to applicants who have a complete application on file by the due date.  Applications may be considered after this date depending on availability of graduate assistantships.
