Rena M. Leizerman

Rena M. Leizerman

Lecturer in Law

Rena concentrates her practice in the area of serious personal injury and wrongful death involving truck accidents, with experience in trial and appellate advocacy, at EJ Leizerman & Associates. She has successfully opposed a Petition for Certiorari to the United States Supreme Court and litigated numerous issues of first impression in federal and state courts across the country.

Prior to joining EJ Leizerman & Associates, Rena practiced law at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP for eight years. She also served as a law clerk for Hon. Mark Filip of the United States District Court of the Northern District of Illinois.

Rena graduated from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri at the top of her class. During her tenure there, she was elected to the Order of the Coif, served on the executive board of the school's law review, and was a member of a national moot court team.

Rena has published numerous articles on legal procedure and commercial law. She recently co-authored a treatise on the liability of brokers and shippers in truck collision cases. Rena currently teaches an advanced course in motor vehicle collision law, focusing on the laws, regulations and rules governing commercial motor vehicles and trucking litigation. Students in the course examine, among other things, theories of recovery, advanced topics in vicarious liability, issues of federal preemption and insurance coverage, and broker and shipper liability. In addition, students learn how to work with a federal statutory and regulatory scheme, as well as how to use comprehensive government databases and safety websites in trucking litigation. Finally, students engage with practical strategies for discovery, settlement and trial.
