Research Interests:

Neuroscience as a discipline is fundamentally driven by the need to understand how communication
between neurons in different brain regions underlie behavior in an animal. As a neuroscientist, the overarching
goal of my research is to unravel the neurophysiological mechanisms that underlie regulation of network
function in the brain, particularly in regions that govern memory and cognition, and how such mechanisms
are disrupted in neurodegenerative conditions and substance use disorders. To address my research
questions, I utilize a broad range of tools and techniques that I have received training in during the various
stages of my career. These techniques can be broadly categorized into three components: imaging (confocal,
2-photon, transmission electron microscopy), physiology (Calcium imaging and whole cell patch-clamp
electrophysiology) and molecular/biochemical assays (recombinant DNA, immunofluorescence, western
blotting, etc.).
