SURF Students Welcome Picnic Held at Swan Creek Metro Park

As part of orientation week, the summer undergraduate research fellowship (SURF) students participating in summer research projects with faculty in the 4 tracks of the Biomedical Sciences graduate program enjoyed a picnic with faculty members and a group of graduate students selected from the tracks at the picnic shelter in Swan Creek metro park at 5:00 PM.  After a foggy and rainy start to the day, Marianne Pohlman managed to arrange a couple of hours of sunshine just in time.

August: SURF Program students present the results of their summer research


Summer undergraduate research fellows and other undergraduates who spent their summer doing research in labs on the Health Science Campus presented the results of their work in a day long session.  Those who spent their summer working with faculty in the CVMD track included:

Sophia Toraby from Oberlin University carried out her project entitled The use of Start PCR to observe XRCC1 expression in bronchial oncogenic cell lines with advisor James Willey, MD

Shane Jeffers from Case Western University studied the Impact of CEACAM on appetite in mice under the guidance of Sonia Najjar, PhD director of the Center for Diabetes and Endocrine  Research

Soundouss El Moubaraki from the University of Poitiers in France studied the effects of extracts from the plant Desmodium adscendens on LLC-PK1 cells with CVMD faculty Sandrine Pierre, PhD
