Inthe summer of 2007 undergraduate pharmacy student David Warner worked with Dr. Bridgeman, Dr. Randy Ruch, and NOAA researchers on a project that featured collaboration between the Lake Erie Center, UT Health Science Campus, and NOAA. Their research analyzed whether molecular markers could be used to detect hypoxia exposure in Lake Erie sport fish and invertebrate species. David’s work showed that certain proteins are very promising for use as molecular markers of hypoxia, but that the technique needs further refinement. David has graduated but this research is continuing in 2008.
