Grant proposals often require descriptions of the institution’s facilities and resources.  Below is a list of several facilities and their current write-ups:

Genomics Core Laboratory
 

The Genomics Core Laboratory (GCL) provides four services for microarray analysis. First, GCL is an Affymetrix service provider, housing a GeneChip System (Hybridization Oven 640, Fluidics Station 400, and Scanner 3000). Second, spotted arrays (protein, antibody, or RNA/DNA) can be scanned on a PerkinElmer ScanArray 4000. Third, GCL has negotiated a favorable group rate for Illumina BeadArray analysis at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and handles sample shipping.  Fourth, the GCL director, Dr. David Weaver, can provide guidance and support in the interpretation of results; his most recent training includes participation in the 2008 Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory course “Integrative Statistical Analysis Of Genome Scale Data”.

Proteomics Core Laboratory
 

NOTE: check again soon; funding has been obtained to update the tandem mass spectrometer and to hire someone to run the instrument. However for now the following is accurate.

The Proteomics Core Laboratory (PCL) provides three services. First, PCL can identify polypeptides from 2D gel spots, SDS-PAGE bands, or mixtures of relatively low complexity, using a Micromass MassPrep robotic liquid-handling system, and a ThermoFinnigan LCQ Deca XP Plus nanospray tandem mass spectrometer linked to a MiChrom MAGIC HPLC. This can be used to sequence peptides via collision induced dissociation. Second, PCL provides equipment, protocols and guidance for user-executed 2D gel analysis. Third, the electrophoretic analysis can use the two-color fluorescence 2-D DIGE (Differential In-Gel Electrophoresis) approach for accurate quantitation, making use of PCL’s GE Typhoon scanner and DeCyder software.
