Come join the Office of Multicultural Student Success in the Student Union Auditorium for a spectacular kickoff event for Black History Month! Our featured keynote speaker will be the Head of Toledo Public Schools, Dr. Romulus Durant. There will be singing, dancing, and lunch provided to those who RSVP. Special guest Alexis Means will help emcee the event.

The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. will be honoring women and mentors on campus who have had an impact on students at the University of Toledo. This includes campus leaders, professors, and community members. Appetizers will be provided throughout the evening.

This is a collaborative event with 4AW and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Students will get the opportunity to have a dialogue about love and the opinions of love in a safe place, with different activities and facilitated discussions.

Black history month art exhibit

Trimble Lounge, Student Union

Art is an integral part of African American history which is why the OMSS would like to give artists an opportunity to share their work with others at the Black History Month Art Exhibit. From 3-5 PM in Trimble Lounge, artists will have their pieces of work displayed in a museum style setting. Art pieces will reflect black history and include the culture of black people. The art will not be for sale, however, artists will have information for patrons interested in purchasing pieces in the future.

This presentation focuses on the spatiality of distribution injustices in residential energy consumption and illustrates how disparities intersect with policy and pervasive residential segregation by race/ethnicity and class, common in many U.S. urban areas.

Name that tune: BHM Edition

Get your teams together and come compete in OMSS’s first Name That Tune: Black History Month Edition. Teams will compete in multiple rounds and try to guess songs from different era’s including the sixties all the way to current music. Music has shaped the lives of Black people and it is a key part of how the culture is expressed. Winners will receive a prize at the end of the night.

BSU Fashion show

the Black Student Union at their 49th Annual Fashion Show. Doors open at 6:30 PM and the show begins at 7:30. Tickets will be sold at Ask Rocky in the Student Union. $10 for presale tickets. $15 for tickets purchased at the door and $15 for VIP.

Black history month College Preview Day

The University of Toledo will be hosting their first Black History Month College Preview Day on February 26th in the Student Union. This is an opportunity for high school students to come and gain knowledge from different multicultural organizations and gain insight about the life of a college student.
