***Families looking to be adopted, must go through the Salvation Army; the University does not directly adopt families.***
The Adopt-A-Family program is where individuals or groups sponsor impoverished families during the holiday season (Christmas).
The Adopt-A-Family program matches individuals or group sponsors with families to provide for their tangible needs at Christmas (gifts and or food).
Without the benefit of an adoption, these families would be looking forward to a very grim holiday. Adopt-A-Family is a long-standing tradition at the University of Toledo. Beginning in 2001, student organizations, departments, and individuals have been giving back to Toledo community.
You or your organization/department are invited to participate:
Can you believe the holidays will soon be here? The Salvation Army is in the process of preparing for our multi-faceted programs that help those less fortunate members of our community have a
One such program that we are asking you to consider helping with is the “Adopt-a-Family” Program. Through this program sponsoring groups are given the name of a family in need within the Greater Toledo area to assist. Sponsors then provide gifts and food to their assigned “adopted” family. The sponsor has the option of choosing the family size that they wish to assist. To help make your decision on the number and size of families you are able to serve, please review the ‘Christmas Giving Suggested Guidelines’ form. Please note we are requesting that you NOT wrap your gifts this year. If you would like to provide the family with gift wrap, it would be greatly appreciated but not necessary.
Last year our local Salvation Army was able to serve over 185 families through the Adopt-a-Family program.
If you would like to participate in the program this year, please complete the Sponsor Form and return it to the Office of Student Involvement (OSI) (SU 3504) by Friday, October 25th at 3 p.m.
Upon turning in your application to OSI, you will be asked to sign an agreement to ensure full participation. Gifts are due to the Office of Student Involvement by Monday, December 8th at 5 p.m. to ensure delivery to families.
Participation in this program requires that you (and your organization) will provide:
- TOYS: AT LEAST 3-4 brand new gifts per child
- FOOD: EITHER a complete holiday meal including AT LEAST milk, bread, vegetables, fruits, meat, and dessert OR a gift card to a local grocery store for complete meal with a sufficient $ amount for a complete meal considering the size of the family
Please feel free to contact our office with any questions you may have at (419) 530-4944 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for your participation in reaching out to help others in need this holiday
