Jindrich Knejfl

Graduate Assistant, Operations

Henry (Jindrich) Knejfl was born in the Czech Republic, where he spent most of his life. In 2007, Mr. Knejfl was a foreign exchange student at Roy C. Start High School in Toledo, Ohio. During that time he fell in love with the local culture and with the city of Toledo but, unfortunately he had to move back to the Czech Republic to finish his high school education over there. Since he liked the United States that much, he applied to the University of Toledo during his senior year of high school. Mr. Knejfl was fortunate enough to get accepted to the Business program at the University of Toledo. In May 2014, he graduated with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration majoring in International Business and Marketing.

His love and passion for recreation started at the end of his freshman year of undergraduate studies. In April 2010, Mr. Knejfl landed a job at the University of Toledo Student Recreation Center. He was hired as a Floor Supervisor. In this position he was enforcing SRC policies and rules, ensured safety of patrons, performed custodial work and controlled access to the facility, while ensuring excellent guest experience. In October 2010, Mr. Knejfl got promoted to the Building Manager position. As a Building Manager, he was responsible for supervision and management of up to five Floor Supervisors during a shift. He was also responsible for a safe and smooth run of the entire facility.

In May 2013, Mr. Knejfl was promoted to an Undergraduate Assistant position for the Operations department where he worked directly with Professional Staff and Graduate Assistants. As an Undergraduate Assistant, he realized that campus recreation is a field that he loves and he is very passionate about. At that time, it was too late to switch majors from business to recreation. Mr. Knejfl decided to finish his Bachelor degree in business and he applied to Graduate school for Recreation and Leisure Administration.

In May 2014, Mr. Knejfl was awarded a Graduate Assistantship at the Student Recreation Center in the Operations department. Currently, Jindrich Knejfl is overseeing the Wellness & Fitness department. He is responsible for ensuing group exercise classes are in order and provide guests with the best experience. He is also responsible for administrative duties such as: payroll, budgeting, staffing, staff evaluation and scheduling. During his employment at the Student Recreation Center he has attended two Ohio Recreational Sport Association conferences. For one of the conferences he has received a student scholarship. Mr. Knejfl is planning on attending NIRSA Region III Lead On Conference at Purdue University on January 23-24, 2015. He is also planning on attending NIRSA 2015 National Conference in Texas that is scheduled for March 30 – April 2, 2015. Mr. Knejfl was selected as recipient of a NIRSA Foundation J. Michael Dunn Endowed Scholarship.

Mr. Knejfl has always had a positive relationship with sports, health and fitness. He has been actively playing ice hockey since he was six years old. He exercises daily, at a gym or at a park.

By working at the Student Recreation Center and pursuing Graduate degree with focus on Recreation and Leisure, Mr. Knejfl has been developing a unique set of skills that he hopes to apply in his professional future after receiving Masters degree.
