Internal Medicine Residency Program

Hospitalist Track - Internal Medicine Residency

Our Hospitalist Track prepares trainees to excel in inpatient medicine, whether as a hospitalist or hospital-based sub-specialist. Contrasted with the general categorical track, there is greater emphasis on quality of care, and understanding healthcare systems.  Track enrollees gain membership to the Society of Hospital Medicine. This two year program is available for up to 8 PGY-2 and 3 residents annually, with applications accepted annually in the spring.

Special features include:
  • Expanded training/opportunities for invasive procedures
  • Preceptorship with practicing hospitalist
  • Leadership exposure with senior hospital administrators
  • Point of care sonography skills
  • Ongoing education in the business of medicine

All training programs offered by the University of Toledo Internal Medicine Residency are eligible for ABIM certification. Graduates of any are well-prepared for private practice, academics, fellowship, or primary care. Enrollees may switch between training tracks at any time in their education as their career plans and interests dictate.
