Brand Guidelines

For 150 years The University of Toledo has been fueling tomorrows, and we are just getting started.

Established in 1872, UToledo has a storied history, with more than 168,000 alumni around the world. Proudly located in Toledo, Ohio, UToledo is a public, research university, powering opportunity for thousands of students. Healthcare professionals at our academic medical center care for patients across northwest Ohio.

In recognition of our rich history, the University has created a special 150 mark to help celebrate this unique anniversary. These guidelines are in addition to the University’s general brand guidelines and UTMC brand guidelines.

Sesquicentennial Mark

When space is available, the sesquicentennial mark should be used with the UToledo logo, as a lockup. When space constraints exist, the 150 mark may be used independently with “The University of Toledo” clearly legible underneath the graphic. Please see the minimum size restrictions for the 150 mark’s use below.

The 150 mark lockup may include college or division logos, but not individual department, office or unit logos. Please contact your marketing strategist to request this custom file.

When applying the 150 mark, use only the official files, provided by the Office of Marketing and Communications or found here on this site. These files include correct spacing and divider line element. Do not attempt to recreate the 150 mark.

No additional elements may be added to the 150 mark.

Usage Timeframe

Items in this brand guide should be used only during the University’s sesquicentennial celebration ― August 2022 through June 2023. The sesquicentennial logo should not be included in materials that will continue to be used after June 2023.

Suggested Uses

As The University of Toledo celebrates this momentous occasion, we encourage the use of the 150 mark on all websites (as a link to UToledo’s sesquicentennial website), event materials/invitations, newsletters, posters/flyers, brochures that have a one-year shelf life and apparel/giveaways. The mark should not be used on individual college or department stationery.

Mark Size and Spacing

Minimum Size

For legibility and accessibility, please refer to the width guide for minimum logo size. This is calculated based on standard print materials; please scale appropriately relative to the media and application. Contact the Marketing and Communications Department for further assistance.

The mark should measure 1.5 inches in width.

Clear Space

The tagged logo works best when it has appropriate clear space around it. Please follow the examples below for consistent clear space. When pinning the logo to one edge of a canvas, that edge’s clear space rules are overridden.

The mark must have consistent clear space around it

Colors

In recognition of the University’s history, the 150 mark may be presented only in the traditional midnight blue and gold or black. The 150 mark should never be presented in the University’s secondary colors.

Usage on Apparel/Giveaways

Protected by the University’s trademark licensing program, only authorized and licensed vendors may use the 150 mark. For more information, please contact Kevin Taylor, UToledo’s brand and licensing manager at kevin.taylor3@utoledo.edu or 419.530.2441.

Referencing the Sesquicentennial

“150th anniversary” and “sesquicentennial” are the only acceptable references for this special occasion. They can be used interchangeably and should not be capitalized. “Sesquicentennial anniversary” is redundant and should never be used.

“Celebrate/celebration,” “honor” and “mark” are appropriate words to associate with The University of Toledo’s sesquicentennial. “Commemorate” should not be used in any form to reference the sesquicentennial, though it may be used to describe specific activities offered as part of a sesquicentennial-related event. Example: “We will celebrate our sesquicentennial with a lecture commemorating medical education in northwest Ohio.”
