Fall 2014 in the Department of Theatre and Film:

A scene from the UT production of Twelfth Night

Twelfth Night

Written by William Shakespeare and Directed by Cornel Gabara
The University of Toledo Department of Theatre and Film proudly presents Shakespeare’s comedy Twelfth Night February 20-22 and February 27-March 1 in the UT Center for Performing Arts Center Theatre. Theatre faculty member Cornel Gabara will direct. His extensive experience acting in and directing Shakespearean plays, plus his great affection for the bard’s work, should guarantee an insightful and delightful performance.
A shipwrecked Viola, believing herself alone in the world, dresses as a man in order to earn a living. Humorous and inevitable complications arise when she falls in love with a man who doesn’t know she’s a woman, and a woman who thinks she’s a man falls for her. Gabara says the humor of the play reflects the timeless search for love and how appearances can be comically deceiving.

Still from Cavellini On Ice

Tammy Kinsey
, UT professor of film, showed one of her works, “Cavellini on Ice,” in New York City last month. The film was shown at WhiteBox in New York City as part of the Cavellini Festival, a three-day celebration of the Italian artist held at WhiteBox, Lynch Tham, Richard L. Feigen & Co. Gallery, and the Museum of Modern Art. Kinsey made the piece with artist and filmmakerJean Kusina. “Cavellini on Ice” is both a tribute to the late artist as well as a parody of artistic self-promotion.
