Borrowing Books from the Mulford Library

Patrons affiliated with the University of Toledo or any OhioLINK institution may borrow materials with a valid campus ID free of charge. Patrons not affiliated with the University should call 419.383.4225 for pricing information. Those who are not affiliated with UT or OhioLINK, but who wish to borrow materials may purchase a library card at the service desk. Please phone 419.383.4225 for more information. Items to be borrowed must be presented at the service desk along with a valid University ID (for UT patrons, a Rocket card, Health Science Campus ID, or state-issued I.D. such as a driver's license)or library card.
Borrowed materials may be returned to the Mulford Library or to the Carlson Library on Main Campus. If desired, documentation for the materials returned may be requested.

Loan Periods and Renewals for Items from the Mulford Library

Most items in the Mulford Library may be borrowed for four weeks, including books in the circulating collection, special collections, and electronic reserves (such as CDs that come with books). Audiovisuals may be checked out for 3 days, and reserve materials may be checked out for 2 hours. (Some items, such as those in the Reference Collection and in the rare books collection, do not circulate.)
Materials may be renewed four times providing that someone else hasn't requested the item (placed a hold on the item). The renewal period is the same as the original loan period. Materials can be renewed in person, by phone (419.383.4225), or online.

Laptops borrowed from the library can be checked out for three hours at a time (the average duration of the battery charge). For more information see Computing in the Libraries.

Fines

Overdue fines are $.25 per day for UT items, and $.50 per day for OhioLINK items; for reserve materials the overdue fine is $1.00 per hour. Overdue fines for laptops are $20.00 per hour; a replacement charge of $3,000.00 will be assessed after three days. If you have a question about an overdue fine, call 419.383.4225.

Obtaining books not available at Mulford

To borrow items from other UT libraries (Carlson, Engineering, and Law) and St. Vincent's library: Items from other UT libraries and the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center library are included in our catalog. To request materials from any of these libraries, click the Request button in the catalog for the item you wish to borrow; then, follow the instructions on the screen. You may also visit any of the UT libraries in person and check out materials there. Health Science Campus students, staff, residents, and faculty who are registered with the Mulford Library are welcome to visit the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center library and check out materials (21-day check-out period).
Borrowing from an OhioLINK library. If the item needed is not available at either Mulford Library or the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, the next step is to check the OhioLINK central catalog. University of Toledo patrons may borrow items directly from OhioLINK libraries. Upon locating the item to be borrowed, a visible link to request the item will be displayed. Books and certain audiovisual materials may be borrowed. For help borrowing books through OhioLINK, call Reference Assistance at 419.383.4218. The Interlibrary Services Department does not accept requests for items available through OhioLINK. (21-day check-out period for books; 7-day check-out)
Borrowing items not available through OhioLINK. Books that are not available at the University of Toledo, St. V's, or another OhioLINK library may be obtained through the Interlibrary Services Department. Requests may be submitted electronically through the ILLiad system. Items borrowed through Interlibrary Services are usually from outside the state and may take as long as two weeks to arrive. The amount of time that an item from another library may be checked out varies, based on the lending library. Whether an item may be renewed and the length of time of the renewal depend upon the lending library.

Copies of articles available at Mulford

Patrons may photocopy any material that is located in the Mulford Library. Photocopiers are located in the fourth floor computer lab (room 508) and fifth floor of the library in room 511. Copies are five cents per page with a Rocket card; ten cents per page using change. Departmental copy codes can also be used with the copiers on the fifth floor (ask your departmental secretary or administrative assistant). Money can be added to Rocket cards via debit or credit card at http://www.utoledo.edu/rocketcard/balance.html.

The library also offers a photocopy service that is available to faculty and staff at a rate of 25 cents per page.

Obtaining articles not available at Mulford

Photocopies of journal articles not owned by the Mulford Library may be requested by students, staff, residents, and faculty of the University of Toledo through the Interlibrary Services department. There is no charge for this service. Articles can be obtained for patrons who are not affiliated with the University of Toledo for a fee, which is reduced for people with Mulford library cards. Once received by the Mulford Library, nearly all articles from other libraries will be delivered electronically to the requestor. If your article cannot be emailed or stored in the ILLiad system, you will be notified that it is available for you to pick up. Materials not owned by Mulford will take longer but still average only three days. The turn-around time for requests for photocopies of material owned by the library is within 48 hours. Fax service is available for emergency situations.
