The Department of Physics and Astronomy is honored to host the Great Lakes regional meeting for the 2018 Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics, running January 12 through January 14. This meeting is one of 12 simultaneous events sponsored by the American Physical Society and is intended to encourage and inspire undergraduate physics majors by connecting them with peers and mentors in a conference setting.

Overall, the nationwide conference hosted more than 1924 undergraduate around the country. Our attendees were undeterred by the freezing Winter conditions in Toledo and we hosted 153 undergraduates from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and western Pennsylvania, including 19 from Toledo.

The speakers and panels were productive and very helpful for the attendees, sparking fruitful discussions and questions among the undergraduates. The students enjoyed the lab tours and astronomy night. The faculty poster judges were very impressed with the quality of the research presented by 35 of the undergraduate attendees. There will be an article in UT News soon and a possible article in the Toledo Blade, as well. Thank you to everyone who helped make this conference a success!
