Family Weekend is an annual tradition that typically occurs on campus every fall semester. This exciting series of events engages our Rockets’ parents, families and siblings all weekend long! 

This fall semester, Family Weekend is going virtual, celebrating our theme: “Oh, The Digital Places You’ll Go!” All weekend long, we’ll be offering an array of FREE events and opportunities via our Family Weekend Facebook group. In this group, you’ll be able to participate in virtual events with your students and fellow Rocket families from the comfort of your home.

In the registration form, you will have the opportunity to opt-in to this program, we hope you'll participate! Family Weekend 2020 - Schedule of events

The Family Weekend Planning Committee has created an array of events and programs all weekend long. Some of our programs will take place throughout the entire weekend on the Facebook Group and other programs will take place virtually at a set time. These programs can be found below. 

Party with a Purpose

September 25 | 6-7pm 

We will be starting the weekend with greetings from our vice president of student affairs, Dr. Phillip Cockrell — also known as DJ Flapp. From his in-house DJ booth, he will bring the tunes you need to create a VIP dance club in your living room. We hope you’ll get up and dance with DJ Flapp as he pumps up the bass and busts a move.

Virtual Screening

September 25 | 7:30-9pm 

Join Ali from the Office of Residence Life for a virtual movie screening! Grab some popcorn, some candy, and curl up on the couch together as a family. You must have a Netflix account to participate. To join in on the fun, download the Google Chrome extension, Netflix Party here: The link to the party will be posted in the Facebook group Friday night!

Story time

September 25 | 8-9pm 

Join Ben from the Office of Student Advocacy & Support for Story Time! Bring your younger siblings and parents for a very fun and interactive story telling. Illustrations will be included.

Baking bread with career Services

September 26 | 10-11am 

Join Chef Davlon from Career Services as he teaches you how to bake bread! Davlon will also be available to talk about Career Services and the wonderful work his team does to connect students to meaningful learning experiences and assist students with major and career exploration. 

Origami with the counseling center

September 26 | 11am-12pm 

Join Kelsey and Amanda from the Counseling Center for an interactive arts and crafts event! You will learn how to create a crane out of paper and also have the opportunity to have conversations about the mental health resources available on campus. 


My Kids bring the jams

September 26 | 11am-12pm 

Do you like to rock? Do you like to wave your hair back and forth? Then jam out with Shannon from Career Services and her kids as they play upbeat music that you can dance and sing too. You’ll have the opportunity to party like a rock star and learn about how we connect students through table recruiting, career fairs, employer meet and greets, virtual hiring events, and many other options! 


Snack Break

September 26 | 12-1pm 

Got a sweet tooth?  Looking for a quick snack? Come, join Geni from the Division of Student Affairs to learn how to make pretzel bites; a delicious, easy, yummy snack.  It is only 15 minutes from start to finish to get that sweet, crunchy, salty treat for you and your whole family to enjoy!

Rocket trivia Night

September 26 | 7-8pm

Do you have what it takes to claim eternal glory at Rocket Trivia Night? If you think so, then come with your A Game! Our Director for the Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards, Alex Lewin will be hosting a fun-filled trivia night that will challenge your UToledo knowledge, start doing your research now! 

Rise & Shine with Recreational Services

September 27 | 10-11am 

Looking to feel the burn and get a good exercise class in before the day takes off? Join Jack and Nancy from Recreational Services for an opportunity to stretch, exercise, and connect with some of our campus partners! 


September 27 | 11am-12pm 

Do you like to dance? Have you always wanted to learn to dance? Then join LJ from Career Services as she will teach you the choreography to a fun and upbeat dance. You will then have an opportunity to practice, learn a bit about Career Services, and then show off your new dance moves!

JCPEnney Rocket suit up Event(Online or in-person*)

September 25-27 | 11am-12pm 

The University of Toledo Career Services, in collaboration with JCPenney, will host The University of Toledo Rocket Suit Up Event. Participants will be able to shop online or in-store throughout the weekend, using their special JCPenney Rocket Suit Up discount coupon. Participants will receive an additional 30% off of select career related attire. For more details, visit
