Kivinie Johnson’s path to success is a testament to the power of determination and the value of a strong educational foundation.
Currently, a key player in Owens Corning’s Sales Development Program, Kivinie is part of the Technical Insulation team, where he’s honing his sales expertise and gaining invaluable industry insights.
As he looks forward to graduating in December 2025 with a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree in Marketing and Professional Sales from the John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation, Kivinie reflects on the pivotal moments that have shaped his academic and professional journey.
“My mantra is to maintain excellent time management to effectively balance work, school and life commitments,” Kivinie shares, emphasizing the importance of balance in achieving success.
This guiding principle has been crucial as he navigates the demanding schedule of a graduate student while excelling in his role at Owens Corning.
For Kivinie, the decision to pursue an M.B.A. at The University of Toledo was not made lightly.
He advises current and prospective students to “set clear goals to stay motivated and focused on what you want to achieve with your degree.”
This goal-oriented mindset has been a driving force in his academic pursuits and is a cornerstone of his advice to others.
He encourages prospective students to carefully consider how an M.B.A. from the Neff College aligns with their long-term career objectives.
“If it supports your objectives, such as advancing in your current role or transitioning to a new field, it is likely a worthwhile investment,” he says, underlining the importance of evaluating the potential return on investment.
Kivinie’s higher education journey began at Morehouse College, where he was instilled with the values of cultural competence, strong analytical skills and academic rigor.
These foundational elements have been instrumental in his success at the graduate level.
“The Five Wells—being well-read, well-spoken, well-traveled, well-dressed and well-balanced—have been crucial in managing the challenges of graduate studies and excelling in a professional environment,” Kivinie notes, attributing much of his ability to navigate the complexities of graduate school to his undergraduate experience.
As Kivinie embarks on his graduate studies at the Neff College of Business and Innovation, he is most proud of the initiative he has taken to further his education and career.
“I look forward to embracing new challenges, building relationships with peers and professors and laying the foundation for future success,” he says with anticipation.
Kivinie’s story is a compelling example of how The University of Toledo’s Neff College of Business and Innovation can empower students to achieve their professional aspirations.
Through a combination of rigorous academics, practical experience and a supportive community, the Neff College continues to provide a platform for students like Kivinie to excel and make significant strides in their careers.
