Dr. Thuong Le remembered as dedicated professor, researcher

We are saddened to announce the passing of Dr. Thuong T. Le, who was a professor of marketing, ebusiness and supply chain management in the UT College of Business and Innovation since 1980. Dr. Le died in February of this year.

Dr. Le developed and taught several new courses in ecommerce, supply chain management, and international business, including ECommerce and the Networked Economy, Web Design for Business Communication, ECommerce Business Models and Systems, Internet Marketing, as well as courses such as International Logistics and Transportation, International Supply Management, Principles of Marketing and more.

Dr. Le obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree at Van Hanh University, Saigon, Vietnam; his MBA in Marketing at the University of Detroit, and a Ph. D. in Business Administration, Michigan State University.

“Dr. Le was a truly dedicated teacher and professor,” noted Dr. Jeen Lim, a colleague in the UT College of Business and Innovation.  “He treated students with respect while at the same time with care for their future career development.  In the process, he became a personal friend to many students.”

Dr. Lim noted that Dr. Le continually updated his teaching materials to reflect recent developments in the field, and that he contributed to COBI’s Ph.D. program by teaching courses and serving in the dissertation committees.

“His most significant impact in teaching,” Dr. Lim observed, “was his leadership role in developing and implementing the e-commerce program, and he was the catalyst in implementing one of the first e-commerce undergraduate majors in the nation.  He was also active in research and published numerous articles in prestigious journals in transportation, logistics, supply chain, and e-commerce.”

“Dr. Le was well respected in the department as a colleague,” Dr. Lim continued.  “He was always willing to discuss issues and find solutions in a friendly and cooperative manner.  Students loved his teaching and friendship outside of the class. Furthermore, not many people knew that Dr. Le was a world traveler.  He travelled to many countries, enjoyed camping and shared lots of interesting and unique pictures.”

“I think Dr. Le would like to be remembered as a dedicated professor and researcher who contributed to the advancement of marketing education at COBI,” Dr. Lim said.
