HOSS Graduate Admission Guidelines

Currently, The University of Toledo offers an MS degree program with concentrations in various research tracks (see program page for more details). All tracks require a master’s thesis completed and successfully defended before graduation. Admission to the MS program is very competitive. Applicants are encouraged to explore HOSS faculty research interests by visiting faculty pages and to indicate their preferences in the statement of purpose that accompanies the application to the program. All accepted candidates are assigned a thesis adviser based on their preferences and faculty availability. Financial support in the form of a full tuition waiver and monthly stipend is available to exceptional candidates.

Application Requirements

Domestic applicants

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
    • Official transcripts must be received.
  • A 2.70 cumulative GPA for all previous academic work.
  • GRE: No minimum score, but recommendations for greatest consideration (Institution code for GRE is 1845):
    • Verbal 155
    • Quantitative 151
    • Writing 3.5
  • Three letters of recommendation 
  • Statement of purpose (Reminder: Applicants are encouraged to explore HOSS faculty research interests by visiting faculty pages and to indicate their preferences in the statement of purpose that accompanies the application to the program.)

International applicants

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • GRE: No minimum score, but recommendations for greatest consideration (Institution code for GRE is 1845):
    • Verbal 155
    • Quantitative 151
    • Writing 3.5
  • TOEFL – Minimum score 80; recommendation for greatest consideration for funding ≥90. IELTS scores are no longer accepted. (Institution Code for TOEFL: 1845)
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Statement of purpose (Reminder: Applicants are encouraged to explore HOSS faculty research interests by visiting faculty pages and to indicate their preferences in the statement of purpose that accompanies the application to the program.)

The deadline to submit your completed application and all supporting documents is January 15th. We cannot review your application if your packet is NOT complete by the deadline. You should be able to check your application status online, informing you if you application packet is complete and identifying items that are missing. The program only accepts new applicants for the Fall term.
