Online Engineering with a Concentration in Energy Engineering Master's Degree Overview

The University of Toledo has one of the nation's best engineering schools. Our online, practice-oriented graduate program in energy engineering is highly customizable. It's not just for engineering graduates with technical portfolios. This program is ideal for professionals at companies that generate and distribute energy, as well as those who manage energy portfolios in business and industry.  

We require all applicants to have job experience in a private industry, government or nonprofit organization. This program will prepare you for greater responsibilities and leadership roles in your current position or for a new job. 

With flexible course options in business and engineering, UToledo energy engineering students develop expertise in many areas: 

  • Public policy 
  • Energy management 
  • Energy economics 
  • Finance 
  • Energy consulting 

The master of science in energy engineering program has three options for specialization: 

  • Power generation and distribution 
  • Energy utilization and management 
  • Advanced energy systems  

UToledo students choose one of two tracks:  

  • Course work option 
  • Project option — fewer courses with a work-related project completed in consultation with your employer and advisor

Online Engineering with a Concentration in Energy Engineering Master's Degree Highlights

Flexible schedule. UToledo energy engineering graduate students learn the latest technology while remaining productive employees. Nearly all classes are web-based, allowing you to set your own schedule.  

Award-winning faculty. Your classes are taught by the same expert faculty, whether you're on campus or a distance learner. Energy engineering faculty members have expertise in: 

  • Power generation 
  • Energy grid management, including impact of solar and renewables 
  • Energy storage  

Hands-on project. Graduate students can choose to fulfill course requirements by completing a work-related project. 

Relevant content. The curriculum was co-developed with engineering faculty and energy industry leaders. 


Career Opportunities

UToledo students who earn a master's degree in engineering with a concentration in energy engineering go on to become leaders in their current positions, often earning promotions.

Online Engineering with a Concentration in Energy Engineering Master's Degree Plan of Study

UToledo master's students in energy engineering take core business and engineering courses. Electives are offered through the College of Engineering, our nationally ranked College of Business and Innovation and the College of Law. Take electives online or on campus.
