University Hall

University Hall was the first building built on the Bancroft Campus. It took 900 workers 11 months to construct the building. It was built in the Collegiate Gothic style and completed in 1931. It is one of the most recognizable buildings in the city and a source of pride for Toledo.

University Hall houses the College of Arts and Letters, the Office of the President, the Public Information Office, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the College of Graduate Studies, the Bell Tower, Doermann Theatre and many classrooms.

Other interesting details:

  • Inside, you can find the college seals representing the alma maters of UToledo’s faculty from 1931.
  • The 206-foot tall Bell Tower has 156 steps.
  • Look for four gargoyles at each corner of the tower.
  • The bell tower is home to nesting peregrine falcons. (Listen for their high-pitched calls as they swoop through campus.)
  • Don't forget to explore the gardens in the east and west courtyards.
