Education and Arts, Education and Science Master's Degree Overview

The University of Toledo’s unique master’s programs in arts and education and science and education attract students who don’t need licensure but are interested in advancing their careers:

  • Ohio high school teachers who want to teach College Credit Plus courses

Education and Arts, Education and Science Master's Degree Highlights

One-of-a-kind graduate program. No other program in the state combines graduate work in a specific subject area with graduate work in education.

This broad, combined master’s degree fits a very specific niche that other master’s programs don’t.

A master in curriculum and instruction doesn’t include subject matter courses and will not prepare teachers for College Credit Plus.

An M.S. or M.A. degree in a specific subject area requires more in-depth subject matter courses, along with a thesis or project. They also have stricter admission requirements and are not focused on teaching.

Earn College Credit Plus credentials while working on your M.A.E. or M.S.E. in biology, chemistry or mathematics. Courses meet requirements established by the Ohio Board of Higher Education for teaching entry-level college courses in a high school, community college or university. These 18-month-long graduate programs include a one-week, on-campus experience during the summer.

Career Opportunities

Most UToledo graduate students in the arts and education/science and education master’s programs are currently employed as teachers or work at zoos, parks and other institutions that have a strong educational component.

UToledo’s graduate program provides the ability to teach in new settings (such as community colleges) or teach more advanced subject matter in their current settings.
