2019 Summer Arts Workshops/Camps

The University of Toledo School of Visual and Performing Arts and community partners, like the Children's Theatre Workshop, will present a number of summer workshops at UT exploring a range of arts genres - from flute to theatre to art to choral conducting. All visual arts workshops will be held at the UT Center for the Visual Arts, 620 Museum Drive. All music and theatre workshops will be held in the Center for Performing Arts on the UT Main Campus. Age ranges vary according to the workshop. Below is a listing of the events currently scheduled. More detailed information is available on the presenting department's web site. Please watch for changes.

ART Summer Camps  |  June 3-7 

Elementary school Students AGES 7-10  |  DINOSAURS (AM) / SY-FY ADVENTURES (PM)

Kids participating in an art workshop at UTThere will be two workshops available, one in the morning (9 a.m. to Noon) and another in the afternoon (1-4 p.m.). The "youngers" camp is for ages 7-10. There will be a break between the morning and afternoon sessions, with supervision of students who stay for both workshops. Students staying all day are encouraged to bring a lunch and beverage, as lunch is not provided. Each workshop is $60 or $105 for both.

Middle school Students AGES 11-13  |  LIterary Journeys (AM) / Cosplay (PM)

Students in the Cosplay workshop will learn sewing and costume creationThe "olders" camp is for ages 11-13. This camp has two workshops available, one in the morning and another in the afternoon. The morning workshops is called "Literary Journeys" (9 a.m. to Noon) and will include projects related to famous books. The afternoon workshop (1-4 p.m.) is "Cosplay" and features sewing and costume making projects. There will be a break between the morning and afternoon sessions, with supervision of students who stay for both workshops. Students staying all day are encouraged to bring a lunch and beverage, as lunch is not provided. Each workshop is $75 or $131 for both.

Children's Theatre Workshop 

Musical: "The Mystery of Edwin Drood"  |  June 3 - July 14

Childrens Theatre Workshop production of James and the Giant PeachSpend your summer honing your triple threat skills with our teen musical, The Mystery of Edwin Drood! Our staff will prep students to present their audition, cast the show, and rehearse the musical for a weekend of public performances! For ages 13-18.

Music Summer Workshops and Events

Flute Camp with Joel Tse and Amy Heritage  |  June 17-21
Flute Camp presenter, Joel Tse works with a camp student/Toledo Symphony flutist Joel Tse and Amy Heritage, 2nd Flute with TSO and instructor at the Toledo Symphony School of Music, will lead classes in all aspects of flute playing and performance.  Morning workshop for beginning flutists.  Daylong programming for high school through advanced flutists.  Chamber and solo performance opportunities, piccolo workshop, flute crafts and more!
 
Jazz Jam Camp  |  June 23-28

The 13th annual UToledo Summer Jazz Jam Camp is a weeklong jazz day camp at the University of Toledo Center for Performing Arts (CPA) offering all levels of jazz instruction by master jazz musicians/educators. The camp is open to all people ages 12 and up. This camp was established in 2007 with the mission to provide a positive, all-inclusive camp that teaches America's music, jazz, to anyone who is interested. Young or older, experienced or not, we are dedicated to presenting a positive, nurturing educational environment while providing you with the "real deal" about playing and improvising jazz.

The CPA is located at 1910 W. Rocket Drive, Toledo, OH 43606, on the main campus of the University of Toledo. We may also hold some optional performances in the 31Hundred Club, located in the Radisson at the University of Toledo Health Science Campus, 3100 Glendale Ave, Toledo, OH 43614.

 
Choral Conducting Workshop |  July 23-25

Choral Conducting workshop is July 24-26This comprehensive and immersive choral conducting workshop is intended is designed to serve and educate individuals as conductor, teacher, leader, scholar, performer, and servant. Conductors will engage in sessions covering a wide variety of topics. This year's workshop will allow conductors to choose from either a three day immersion workshop, or a one day workshop. Deadline to register is July 17.
