2019 CHINESE BRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER CAMP

1. Program Introduction

Chinese Bridge Summer Camp for US High School Students is an annual Chinese language and culture experiencing activity sponsored by Confucius Institute Headquarters with the cooperation of the Confucius Institutes in US. The program aims at enhancing Sino-US youth exchanges, deepening high school students’ understanding of and personal experience with Chinese language and culture. This year, we Confucius Institute at The University of Toledo would like to invite 15-20 American high school students (including 1 chaperon) to participate in the summer camp.

2. Itinerary in China and activity theme (Beijing Time):

Beijing and Qinhuangdao (Yanshan University)

Discover China – Chinese History and Folk Arts.

(Language training, cultural activities, sightseeing, school visits and homestay experience)

3. Program Fee

CI headquarters will be responsible for the cost in China including food, accommodation and group activities. Students will be responsible for international travel fees, international insurance, visa application fees and so on.

4. All students should meet the following criteria:

1) U.S. citizen (has U.S. passport);

2) Ages 14 to 18, enrolled in grades 9-12 or including 12 graders who will graduate this summer and 8 graders who will enter high school after this summer.

3) Excellent academic record and strong interest in Chinese language and culture. Knowledge of the Chinese language is preferred.

4) Have great interests in Chinese language and culture;

5) Healthy enough for international travels;

6) Willing to participate in all summer camp activities and comply with requirements.

5. Application and Selection

1) Students should submit the personal application form (appendix 1) with the personal application letter, school or teacher recommendation letter and resume to the Confucius Institute/Classroom.

2) The Confucius Institute/Classroom will administer the preliminary selection according to the submitted documents, confirm qualified candidates, and submit candidates’ information (appendix 3) and a scan copy of their application materials to Confucius Institute Headquarters for review.

3) The Confucius Institute Headquarters should notify the Confucius Institute/Classroom of the selection results. Confucius Institute/ Classroom should sign acknowledgment with campers/chaperons and send the scanning copy of acknowledgment and the first page of application’s passports to Confucius Institute Headquarters.

4) Not allows the unqualified candidates who include parents of the students and chaperon's relatives to participate in the summer camp.

6. Other

We Confucius Institute Headquarters enjoy the final explanation right of the above provisions and information. Confucius Institutes/Classrooms will start recruitment from today and send us back application forms, recommendations, CVs to our division (confuciusInstitute@utoledo.edu) by March 29th. We will send invitations to students in one month if they are verified.
