2015 Summer Music Workshops and Special Course Offerings


Got plans this summer? The University of Toledo Department of Music is offering several incredible music workshops this summer! Some are geared toward students - from middle school through college, others are for music educators.  From Jazz to Classical, from strings to flute to voice - there is literally something for just about everyone. KODÁLY WORKSHOP|  MAY 2 Dr. Pamela Stover, Assistant Professor of Music Education at the University of Toledo

Faculty: Dr. Pamela Stover, Music Education
Dr. Pamela Stover is your clinician and host for this Saturday morning workshop in Kodály.  Kodály is an experience-based method of teaching music in which singing precedes training on a instrument. Dr. Stover is an experienced clinician who has presented workshops and research throughout the United States, as well as in Canada, England, Germany, Italy, Greece, Poland and Australia.
Ages: Music educators of all levels, early childhood/elementary teachers, undergraduate education and music education majors

FLUTE CAMP WITH JOEL TSE  |  JUNE 8-12Flute Camp is led by Joel Tse, principal flute for the Toledo Symphony

Ages: 12 and up
Tracks: Performance 
Description: Joel Tse, principal flute for the Toledo Symphony and flute instructor for the University of Toledo heads this amazing, intense workshop in flute. Students are trained in breathing, technique, and rhythm, as well as provided master class coaching. A concert performed by the students concludes the workshop on Friday.
Cost: $300 for the week or $65 per day (Register for the week or just some of the days) UT STUDENTS: ATTEND THE WEEK FOR 1/2 PRICE! (Must provide Rocket #)

Description: The UT Summer Jazz Institute is the place where ALL levels of jazz students can discover and achieve their jazz potential through the study of jazz in one of four exceptional programs: instrumental jazz, vocal jazz, teacher training* and jazz appreciation.
*The teacher training track is flexible to your time and needs. It provides enough contact hours for 1-3 hours of Continuing Education. Please check with your school district for its continuing education policies and forms.

SUMMER STRINGS | TUESDAY/THURSDAY EVENINGS - JULY 14, 16, 21, 23, 26*Mardi Soirs i.e. Tuesday Evenings for Strings is taught by Cecilia Johnson

Ages: 18 and up
Tracks: Adult Amateur Musician
Description: Summer Strings meets twice weekly on Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This strings workshop (violin, viola, cello or bass) is for the adult amateur musician who is looking for a fun music experience that will keep playing skills sharp over the summer plus provide an opportunity for concert performance. We know that attending twice a week is a tough commitment over the summer, so we ask that you attend at least three of the five sessions, with one of those being the final session on July 26, which is the concert performance.
Fee Options: $120 (all 5 sessions), $100 (4 sessions), $75 (3 sessions)
