Bioengineering

Program Requirements

Undergraduates enrolled in the Bioengineering program at the University of Toledo must complete requirements in six different areas in order to graduate. These requirements are:

  1. Communication skills, humanities, social sciences, and multicultural issues (21 hours): 
    ENGL 1110, ENGL 2950 (6 hours) 
    Humanities, social science and multicultural electives (15 hours)

 

  1. Basic science and mathematics core courses (40 hours): 
    BIOL 2170, 2180 (5 hours) 
    CHEM 1230, 1240, 1280, 1290 (10 hours) 
    MATH 1850, 1860, 2850, 2860 (15 hours) 
    PHYS 2130, 2140 (10 hours)

  1. Engineering core courses (7 hours): 
    EECS 2300, CIVE 1150 (7 hours)

  1. Bioengineering core courses (42 hours): 
    BIOE 1000, 1010, 1200, 1410, 1420, 2100, 2200 (13 hours) 
    BIOE 3110, 3300, 3400, 3500 (12 hours) 
    BIOE 4100, 4120, 4140, 4300 (11 hours) 
    BIOE 4410, 4420 (6 hours)

  1. Technical electives 
    A total of five technical electives (15 hours) in engineering, mathematics, or the natural sciences.  These must include two technical electives that are BIOE 4XXX level courses.  See Technical Electives and Elective Sequences for more details.  To satisfy the track completion requirement, a minimum of three courses (9 hours) must be completed within the selected track category. The remaining two elective courses (6 hours) may be completed within any of the track categories.  
  2. A minimum of three semester-long co-op experiences.
