Legal and Paralegal Studies

Advising and Resources

New incoming freshman students must first attend an orientation/advising/financial aid event called “Rocket Launch” before they are allowed to register for their classes. During the program, students have the opportunity to meet with their academic adviser, register for courses, complete procedural details such as obtaining a student ID, obtain career information and learn about the many educational opportunities that UT offers both inside and outside of the classroom. To talk to an advisor, please email CHHSAdvising@UToledo.edu or call 419.530.5366.

Incoming students are strongly encouraged to meet with the Program Director prior to taking classes. At these initial meetings, students are provided information pertaining to job requirements, job opportunities, legal restrictions on the practice of law by non-lawyers, and paralegal professional associations.

The Program maintains its own career resource library on paralegal careers. The Office of Student Services provides general career counseling and the Center for Career Services and Experiential Learning provides additional services pertaining to preparing for a job search, and enhancing interview skills. This office assists in developing resume writing, interviewing, and job search skills. Students can take advantage of graduation audits to ensure that they are on-track in their studies. Then, at the end of their program, students apply for graduation at this office as well.

The Learning Enhancement Center (http://www.utoledo.edu/success/lec/) provides students with academic assistance and support.
