We are thrilled to introduce the exceptional judging panel for the highly-anticipated Tech419 Pitch Competition on Thursday, November 7, 2024. These distinguished professionals represent a diverse range of backgrounds, from entrepreneurship and education to technology and economic development. Their collective wisdom and industry insights will be instrumental in identifying the most promising startups in this year's competition.
As our finalists present their carefully honed 5-minute pitches, our judges will evaluate their potential for market success, innovative approach, and ability to articulate their vision. The panel's decision will determine the distribution of $19,000 in project funding, providing a crucial boost to the winning entrepreneurs.
Dr. Thomas Brady
Entrepreneur, Educator, Author & Philanthropist
Founder of Plastic Technologies, Inc. (PTI) and several related companies specializing in packaging innovation, technology development, recycling, and specialty manufacturing. With a Ph.D. in Plastic Materials Engineering from the University of Michigan, Dr. Brady's career highlights include leading the development of the PET bottle as Vice President of Plastics Technology at Owens-Illinois. He has received numerous accolades, including Entrepreneur of the Year and induction into the Society of Plastics Industry Hall of Fame, reflecting his significant impact on the plastics industry and his commitment to philanthropy.
April Welch
Deputy Director of Economic Development, City of Toledo
April leverages over a decade of experience in the field and is dedicated to helping both new and existing businesses scale and succeed within our region. Her work is pivotal in attracting and retaining entrepreneurs, fostering a vibrant and dynamic local economy in Toledo. April holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration, which underscores her commitment to public service and economic growth.
Lisa Halsey
Senior Program Associate, Women of Toledo
Lisa supports women and BIPOC business owners in overcoming obstacles, growing their ventures, and tapping into their entrepreneurial potential. She is also the Owner and Head Instructor of Elite Karate, Fitness, and Wellness, where she combines her 20+ years of experience in personal development with martial arts training to empower individuals to discover their strengths and achieve their goals.
Todd Hendricks Jr.
President, Robotic Maintenance Vehicles (RMV) & Pioneer Industrial Systems (PIS)
As the President of RMV and PIS, Todd is leading both companies on their mission to improve the world through automation, robotics and leveraging expertise between the worlds of manufacturing and road construction. He loves to spend his time with his wife, Allison, and their son, Teddy; be it traveling, golfing, or cheering on the Buckeyes. Todd is also involved with the University of Toledo's Center for Family Business as the Chair of the Advisory Board and a member of the Executive Committee.
LeSean Shaw
Chief Operations Officer, Actual Reality Technologies
LeSean Shaw is a Toledo-based technology advocate and co-founder of EmpoweredAI, a nonprofit tech company focused on building an inclusive and thriving tech ecosystem in Toledo. With experience promoting equitable access to technology at state and federal levels, LeSean has influenced policies that bring resources to Ohio. Through events like Tech Night @Tolhouse, he fosters collaboration and innovation, aiming to make technology a key driver of Toledo's economic and social growth.
